Pitwright is a barbecue cook timer, rub calculator, and meal planner. It runs entirely in your browser or as an installed app. This policy explains what data the app handles and the few cases where information is sent to a third party.
Everything you create in Pitwright is saved locally on your device. Your cook content is never sent to us - we have no account system and no server that stores it. This includes:
This data stays in your browser's storage. Clearing your browser data, uninstalling the app, or using
the Clear Cook Log option in Settings removes it. We cannot see it or recover it for you.
To find bugs and understand which features get used, Pitwright collects a small set of anonymous, aggregate usage events - for example that the app was opened, a cook was started or finished, the planner or cook log was opened, a backup was exported, or whether the notification permission was granted. Each event carries only the event name, a random install identifier that is not tied to any account or device ID, the app version, and whether you are on the web or the Android app. A cut's built-in category identifier may be included so we can tell, for instance, that brisket cooks are the ones failing.
These events are never tied to your identity and never include your cook content: no meat names, custom rub names, notes, journal text, temperatures, weights, meal times, photos, shopping lists, or exported data. Events are sent to our own server (a Netlify function); there is no third-party analytics company, no advertising network, and no cookies. We do not sell this data or use it for advertising.
Analytics is on by default because it is anonymous and aggregate, but you can turn it off any time in Settings under "Anonymous usage analytics." When it is off, no events are sent.
Pitwright includes an optional weather feature. If you use it, the app asks your browser for your device location and sends your approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo, a weather service, to retrieve a forecast for your area. Your location is used only to fetch that forecast. Pitwright does not store your location, and you can decline the location permission at any time (the rest of the app works without it). Pitwright loads its fonts from Google Fonts. When fonts load, your device makes a request to Google's servers, which means your IP address may be visible to Google as part of that request. See the Google Privacy Policy.
The app is served by our hosting provider, which, like all web hosts, may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and request times) for security and reliability. These logs are not used to identify or profile you.
Pitwright is a general-audience cooking app and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone.
Because your data lives on your device, you are in control of it. You can export a backup of your cooks from Settings, clear your cook log, or remove everything by uninstalling the app or clearing your browser storage.
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
